I saw this cartoon on a VHS tape back in the day, I'm fairly certain that it is something Eastern European from the glory days of Eastern Bloc/Soviet animation, most likely from the time period between 1970 and 1990. There were various animated films on the cassette, all similar in vibe. The specific one I'm looking for I imagine to be some Czech (Czechoslovakian) animation, its little characters remind me of Krtek (The Mole). I have no idea whether this selection of cartoons had existed in multiple places or it was specific to Hungary. What I know is that the cassette is a commercial one produced sometime around the second half off the '90s, however, its contents had been created long before that based on the animation style and tone.

The story revolved around a chestnut tree, it had a sort of like a folktale-like, almost mystic feeling. Sadly, I can't remember much, but the chestnut tree was a central element. The fact that the flowers of the tree were shaped like candles had a distinct significance: as the story progressed they transmorphed into actual glowing lights, and the animals of the forest gathered around them in kind admiration looking for respite. Curious, but I remember something threatening the animals and the tree giving them shelter (or maybe this is just my childhood mind's association, as I was afraid of the dark, projecting all this on the animals). Among these animals was a bunny for certain, I remember distinctly as it is one of my favourite animals.
